No-exam life insurance

Which applicants can skip the medical exam, how the fast-track process works, and what happens if you don't qualify.

Most modern carriers provide expedited underwriting options: qualified applicants—meeting age and amount thresholds—can be approved based on the application itself, prescription records, driving history and other background data, rather than a physical exam. Approval decisions often happen within the same business day. Each quote on this site specifies whether an exam is needed, might be needed, or isn't needed.

What it changes

No underwriting steps are skipped just because an exam isn't required. Your answers are checked, and any policy issued with false information can be overturned in the first two years. If the carrier's background check turns up questions, they may ask for tests; you choose at that point whether to move ahead.

Who tends to qualify

Usually this applies to people under about 60, applying for amounts within a carrier's accelerated limit, without serious health concerns, and tobacco-free for a year or more. Some carriers will accept results from a recent medical visit if you have recent blood work available.

Typically, an exam involves a 20 to 30 minute session conducted by a paramedical professional, held at your home or workplace in the La Mirada area, at no expense to you. For many applicants in good health, test results actually improve their assigned rate class, so an exam isn't necessarily a drawback.
